15 Minute City Living in Our Small Canadian Town
Переглядів 8307 місяців тому
Many people in North America debate and misunderstand the 15 Minute City concept. When we moved back to Canada from the States, we consciously sought a town with Main Street shops, access to bicycle trails, parks and outdoor recreation. Most services and commodities we need are within a 15-minute walk or bike ride. And no one is "confining' us to a particular area or "district." We are within a...

Ask Explorer and Scuba Diver Jill Anything - Your Questions Answered
We are planning on making an epic river journey in 2026, it will be over 200 miles in a river that will have many shallow and dry spots. A light solar boat is what we're looking for- this one looks like a candidate! Thanks for sharing.
What if just my octo is free flowing but not my main? Any ideas?
Generally, that would indicate that the octo itself needs service. A repair mechanic will first check the intermediate pressure to rule out an HP seat issue in the first stage. Then if that is okay, they will disassemble the second stage and likely replace the LP seat and readjust the cracking pressure to bring it within specification. It is a quick fix.
What an incredible human being!!!!!!!!
Thrilled to have found your YT channel! I'm listening to your book: "Into the Planet" right now on audiobook, and it's captivating. You're an amazing story-teller as well as adventurer!
Thanks for your lovely message!
I dive 100-130 feet and I haven’t gotten certified 🤣
hi. can this kayak be used in the ocean, in salt water?
I love the fart comments...so real!!
Hey Jill,Thanks for sharing Your Experiences ,just wanna say ,i am obsessed with scuba diving more and more although i haven't done yet because of thalassophobia
Hi Jill. Would you say this spool is "universal"? I have an Oceanic SPG and my son's is Uwatec. Will the spool listed by you work for both? Thanks for this video.
yes!
Read your book during the pandemic. I dont know where you get the courage to do the things you do. A young technical diver here.
Thanks for the tip. This happened to me today at Ginnie.
Reminds me of Nemo! Very calming
All not true about age . Sorry . It's easy to prove erosion . This plain that we live on is not old at all . How they arbon date is wrong because your dating carbon . The air , ground, and water as many other things are trillions of years old . You are made from those things . Breaking down and reforming . So a rock could be billions trillions but was formed a thousand years ago . Do not fall for improper study . We all need to come together for truth . Space is the same , evolution also . All lies , sorry
12:50 absolutely great reminders how temperatures can affect our decompression and DCS risk. Have come across this point in several recent tech diving discussions presented on UA-cam about human dive physiology by our industry leaders and subject mater experts. Once again taking every advantage we can to maximize our coexistencein in the underwater aqua sphere. 🤿😀🤙
This is exactly what I was looking for THANK YOU! I have still have 1 question. I am wanting to fill my small 2L tanks with my Large tank. If i use this transfill whip how do i know how much pressure i am putting into my small tank?
Thanks for reaching out. Some fill whips will have a pressure gauge on each end, but if not, the pressure will equalize between the two tanks. In other words, the big tank fills the little tank until the pressure is the same on each side. If you put the end of the fill whip with the SPG on the big tank, you can throttle the valve and stop the filling process early if needed by simply watching the gauge on the supply side. I hope that makes sense. Best of luck.
My grandfather was a volunteer soldier for those tests. I didnt know where the laboratory was exacly in Ottawa, so thanks for this information.
Oh my goodness! Thanks for sharing that. If you go to 50 Sussex today, there is a little cafe beside the falls. On that building you can see the old address sign on the building for 1 John Street.
Jill could you please give us an update on the liberty sidemount with wob at depth. How deep have you had it? Any insights would be awesome because I’m researching my next unit. You rock!
Hi there! You might want to connect with DiveSoft and ask them for the WOB stats. They can share the data from their CE testing. I don't currently dive the unit these days. I opted for a backmount rebreather which works better for me as a photographer. I can be like walking a dog off leash and the shifting body positions and trim are not ideal for SM rebreathers. Cheers!
Those buckles would never fail!
Looks beautiful, I must check this out
Kinda thought you was going to show how to do it as the title
True beauty
Is it fresh or salt water in the mine?
In the depths we are exploring it is fresh water. If you descended deeper, you would eventually hit a"halocline" and salt water.
Thank you for supporting my small business friend Blake! He is the one who made these!
Cool! It is a great product!!
Why Ben and Maks whom lay the most of the line and where the first involved have neyther mentioned nor given any credit. Acording to other versions these british divers arrived when the perspectives of succeding got better and just made de "glorious" dive, using the line that was allready installed all the way close to the place were the kids were. Just curious
It should be noted that all the line laying activity from the dive base located in Chamber 3, towards the boys, was accomplished from the early hours of Sunday 1st June until John & I located the boys on the Monday evening (2nd June); thus a period of 44 hours. The boys had been missing for nine days by this point. This operation was conducted by the Thai Navy SEALs , Ben & Maksym, then John & I. Each of whom were operating as a line laying team, progressing forward from the previous team's furthest point of penetration. There were six line laying dives that advanced the main line towards the boys. In sequence these were conducted in this order SEALs, Ben, SEALs , us (U.K), Ben, us. The total distance between Ch 3 & the boys was 1507m, there was of course one continuous guide line through this passage. John & I laid 935 metres, Ben laid 253 metres, & the Thai SEALs were responsible for 319 metres. This has all been measured after the cave had drained. So yes, Ben & Maksym played an integral part during this stage of operation, but it certainly cannot be implied that most of the line was laid before we became involved, nor that Ben was responsible for the greater overall majority; as you have inaccurately stated. Furthermore, three days before the commencement of the main line advancement Thursday the 28th, John & I were laying line in shorter flooded sections up to Ch 3 where we encountered & subsequently rescued the 4 trapped pump workers.
@@richardstanton9231 Thanks for your answer. I have recently read your book about the rescue (and about yourself ), so my doubts about that aspect have already been accurately clarified ;) Best regards Joaquín

Great video Jill! Don't need the micropause at the very start. People have terrible attention spans
Great idea - so simple. And it looks cooolllld!
15 minute living is a nice reality in a beautiful affluent place such as this. But the urban 15 minute cities the W.E.F has planned for us will be far lass idylic, and will limit our inaliable freedoms.

Hello Jill. What a great video and information. I live in Fairbanks Alaska. I love to Ice dive here and do some Scientific Diving in Homer Alaska. Now that I have my own Drysuit (shell type) and my warm "bunny suit", I am still trying to keep my hands warm. I do have the dry gloves, but after a few mins in Arctic waters they stiffen up and get really cold. I have been looking into the Santi heated gloves (and possible vest) but don't want to deal with all the wires and battery pack. What would be a good solution to this problem?
Hi Dusty, Yes, the Santi heated gloves are great, but the wires and battery pack can be a bit cumbersome. If you wear the right glove liners you may be comfortable enough. I like wearing the Fourth Element undergloves which are essentially a short wristed neoprene glove. If it gets wet, you still have comfort. A wool liner or merino or alpaca add a toasty layer for longer dives. Just stay away from anything with cotton or synthetics. They won't be as warm as good wool.
Jill you have lived so many lifetimes, it’s good to see you get some quiet time.
I've done my own research, bottom line: Brown killed Richtothen. Ironically, Browns own report causes confusion as he didn't follow the Baron to the ground to confirm his own kill. Apparently he shot at the German long enough to get him off May's tail, and once Richtothen had done so, we went on about his business. Oliver C. “Boots” LeBoutillier did witness Browns tracer rounds hit Richtothen's cabin and did follow the German to the ground. I see no reason why a seasoned pilot at the scene in the actual dogfight would be mistaken or make that up. One of the reasons why Brown never lost a man to combat is that his primary concern was deterring the Germans from shooting up his men, not racking up kills. I believe the Aussies did hit Richtothen's plane, but he was already mortally wounded by that time by Brown's bullet.
When I first starting diving I thought a fin was just a fin and they where all the same. How wrong I was 😂. I now own 5 sets of fins all different sizes and weights for my different style of diving. I have just bought the Atomic Aquatics fin and really like it, it is a lot less heavier than my other fins i use, I mainly use Apeks Rk3 hd's so I have to add little ankle weights when using the Atomic fins. British divers like myself tend to use heavier commercial/tec fins so having light fins is a bonus sometimes I can power on at greater speeds with the Atomic 👌🏻

Can this be used with the monitor/screen speakers instead of having to use a headset and still prevent feedback / echo. I would love to just have a great quality usb mic to the side and be able ro answer zoom / Skype calls without having to wear a headset and get amazing quality mic audio
Unfortunately, you will always get echo and feedback if you don't use earbuds or headphones.
I guess, but I thought there might be AI software around these days that can fix that issue
Yes, not yet... but I imagine someone is working on that!@@stevea8099
Would this technique work for oval rings? Or would the shape put unequal forces on the glove and cause the seal to not be watertight?
I have used it on oval rings. Whether oval or round, it is just a matter of having enough smooth contact area to seal. Good luck!
good dog
You would know Jill! Imma get me some neoprene socks!
Or lycra! Even better...
Hi Jill, can you recommend a wing for twin tanks? I'm undecided between Hollis DT System and ScubaPro S Tek?
Both excellent manufacturers, but I prefer the straightforward simplicity of the Hollis system. It is less "fussy" and lighter overall for travel. You'll have it for life!
@@JillHeinerth thank you :)
I recently purchased a Catrike Dumont. Because age and old injuries coming back to haunt me, I haven’t able to ride any bike for a couple years. But my Catrike has me back on the road enjoying every mile.
